Airline Dilemma....

Was just checking out flights to go home to Malaysia during the Summer Holidays...

My usual full-service KLM tickets cost USD 382 for the three of us (boys and I) for the period I want to travel.

BUT...

Tony Fernandez's low-cost budget AirAsia tickets cost USD 210 for the three of us for the same period. That's USD 172 cheaper!

It's a NO brainer as to which airline I should take.
BUT. BUT.
- Have to pay for check-in luggage.
- Sure overweight. So have to pay the extras.
- Have to pay for on-board meals.
- No priority boarding when travelling with kids (unless I want to pay??)
- Have to go to LCCT (which I don't really fancy)
- No kiddie pack for the boys.
- No short sitcoms to entertain boys....

So how like that?

How??????

i flew with air asia to langkawi with kids b4, the only priority is during waiting to board, parents with kids can go first, meaning we can queue at the front. then hv to run and walk to get to the plane for best seats. we didnt wanna be separated in seating.if its for 1-2 hrs, i can endure, but more than that, a better plane will do, besides i dont like their airbus, its new but still cramp compare to others.
if we paid rm20 per person, we can get priority seats. i think we can board first or the seats can be booked.. good luck!

I haven't tried the budget airlines, but you're right... got hidden costs and less benefits...

So maybe don't rack your brains too hard over this one, and check with your hubby if can pick the more $ensible one? (esp since it means you don't have to make the trip to LCCT).

Have a wonderful Mother's Day, Nomadic Mom! Thanks for coming by with your encouragement, I really appreciate that =).

They do have priority checking for kids, if u ask.

i think your main concern would be excess baggage, what with your maggi mee and toothpaste and whatnots. You really have to check properly how much they are gonna charge. There is no more priority boarding for ppl with kids, etc. so you will have to pay a fee each for priority boarding. As it's quite a short flight, i think the kiddie packs and no entertainment are not all that important. Do you not have a portable dvd/tv player?

Not sure how much the difference is in RM. But if it's not a huge amount, think it would be wiser to choose your 'normal' airline.

if u save the money, think of what u cud spend it on! ;-)

If it is a short flight, the kids dont need much entertainment or food, just bring some books and a gameboy. Feed them before you board. They will be fine. And you have more money for spending.

BUT if your boys really need the airline frills, then no choice lor! go for the full service.

Misha's Mum - Not this month. I go back in mid June for a couple of days (for my Macau trip), and then end-July till early August.

Wen - Sure can Q in front? Then good. I can walk pretty fast. I don't think I wanna pay extra RM 20 for priorty boarding... I just walk like as if I am in MALAY MAIL BIG WALK!!! :-)

bp - I've decided to go with the budget airline... since I'll be going back in mid-June, and my sisters coming early July. They can help me bring some stuff back. So the baggage there Ok, I hope.
BTW, Hope you are feeling better!

RachelS- Should I call you Rachel's mom? Since it is such a short flight...should be okay. I will let them play their DS and whatnots.

D- you help me bring the Maggi Mee and colgate when you come lah.....

Mott - That's what I was thinking....the money saved, I mean. :-)

SAHM - My kids are easily persuaded lah.. Just let them play their DS and whatnots on the plane lor.. I booked AirAsia already..
Wah.. add the baggage fee, food and insurance, the savings not as big liow...
