My Maid Stories Have Begun...

Today is Sunday, 17th September. Have to type the date in because I still have not figured out how to change the settings on the time zone.

Maid No.1 has just made me a little cross. Maybe shouldn't call her No.1 cause she is certainly not No.1, so I shall call her Maid-A, A because it's her initials..Not that she is of Grade "A" either... Anyway, Maid-A just came and asked me for an adaptor. She said that my H (decided to refer hubby as H from now one) has asked her to bring the boys' CD Player to the Staff quarters and she needs an adaptor for the socket. (Country X uses some stupid kind of socket that I have to buy thousands of adaptors to fit my applicances to their type of socket.) I told her "No. Put it in the kitchen." and she still continued to blab that H told her that they could use it. I had to say sternly "No. I want to listen to music when I am cooking. Put it in the kitchen".... Have to say that I am a bit "p#ssed off".

And the other maid, whom I shall call Maid-Y also rather dumbo the other day. I gave her money to pay the bottled water delivery man, and I expected change. She sooooo smart and went to give all the change to the man as TIPS. Apa-lah. So bodoh lah.

And you know me, I have my different pails for washing different things...already explained to them what pail is used for what, and still making mistake. Want to "tor huit" soon.. but not worth it lah, huh... just relax relax and go for another spa session. :-)

Basically, I have been "scolded" both by H and friends for over-paying both maids. Apparently, I should be paying them HALF of what I am paying them now... But half only means RM 120 wor. That is kinda sedikit. Anyway, I am paying them equivalent to RM 240 each. They provide own food. I only give them toothpaste, sugar, instant noodles, tea, shampoo and soap. That was the deal lah. But H told me to give them some rice too. So I did give them a bag of 5 kg rice to share between the two of them. Sometimes, I also give them some veges from my fridge lor...So, they are already getting a very very good deal from me leh... Some more let them have one day a month off... Where got so good if they work for locals??? They cant' work for Mat Sallehs because they can't speak English and certainly don't know much..

Okay, Maid-A does know abit of the "hired help protocol" lah. She did work as a maid for about 1 1/2 years, I think. My house have a side entrance to the upstairs, and Maid-Y was gonna use the "normal" stairs to go upstairs to clean-up boys' room, but then Maid-A told Maid-Y that she should use the side stairways and use the side-entrance.

Think someone asked why I needed two maids...Is it because I live in a mansion or what?? Well, basically, I don't live in a mansion. In Malaysia, one maid "pow kar liow". Over here, the maids over here are kinda "specialised" lah.. They have one to clean, one to cook, one as nanny, one as housekeeper etc. That's why the houses all have loads of rooms for the hired help. My place has 4 rooms for the hired help leh. Anyway, need more than one maid generally because they generally want to have company, plus they tend to "rest/ nap" (??!?!?) in the afternoons too!!! But that is quite the norm I am told. I do not tell them that they can sleep lah, of course. But if I got something for them to do, sure I call them to do lah. WHere got say, "You sleeping? It is okay!". Siow, meh???
So, in my house, Maid-A generally does cleaning. There are simple gadgets that can actually smoothen the bedsheets when they make the bed. Have to say the bed is made-up to very nice lah. And she also tidies up all the clothes in the cupboard...all lined up till very neat. Maid-A very young leh.. only 18 though. Commented something the other about Maid-A, and my young son said "Of course she cannot do it well!! She is just a teenager!!!" Thought that was kinda funny.

Maid-Y very very inexperienced. So definitely will not get RM 240 equivalent elsewhere. So, I have used this fact to tell her that she better learn and adhere to MY WAYS. Aiya, took her in because it probably would be easier to train her than someone who has "bad habits" entrenched in working for someone else. She is about 23 years old, I think...(got to check..have her ID somewhere in my room), married with a 2 1/2 year old. Think her hubby and son came just now. Saw a man sitting outside the house. Security guard will not allow him into the house compound. But think I have to remind them again...just in case. Anyway, she went to school till age 19, which is quite a rarity in this country, but her English is quite non-existent. But she is quite eager to learn lah. Anyway, Maid-Y is supposed to cook and do sort out anything that concerns the boys, ie. their laundry, clean their room, sort out their toys, their food etc etc.

Okay...got to go be a cook now... Need to teach Maid-Y how to cook "Mee Suah Soup" for dinner. H not eating tonight (gone for golf tournament) so can eat more simply....

Later...
