What is Important?

My mom just SMS-ed me to inform that Pavarotti has succumbed to cancer today. *Sigh* Am overwhelmed with quite a lot of news about friends and relatives getting cancer. My cousin-in-law passed away last week, from lung cancer that has metathesized to her bones. She was only 42. And yesterday, I received an email from my friend in Bangkok. Her ex-husband has just been diagnosed with 3rd-stage liver cancer. He undergoes extensive check-ups for his pilot's license renewal every year; thus the discovery that the cancer is in its late stage was quite a shock. I informed my mom on this, and she reverted with the news that her best friend's (also a breast cancer patient) husband has also been diagnosed with cancer. It brings to light that despite of all the wealth and power, health would still be the most important aspect of life. We should also lead life to the fullest, worry less and be happy always.

Nomadic Mom, yes, the 'C' word seem to be more prominant these days.

I was on the phone with a very good dear friend in Melbourne. She lost her sister (a year older than her) to liver cancer just 3 years ago and now she lost her eldest sister to breast cancer two months ago.

Pavarotti lived a good life. I think he achieved what he wanted to achieve and 71 years old though young but seeing that he was in remission for so many years, he really has been blessed in many ways.

That dreaded "C" strikes fear in everyone. Must be the stress everyone faces that causes it. Must learn to breathe, and relax more.

Judy - I supposed for Pavarotti, he did achieve success and all, and 71 is quite a ripe old age.

This afternoon, had lunch with some girlfriends and this subject came up, and also we talked about having a WILL and such. Not only Cancer is prominant these days, my gf was saying quite a lot of young men are suddenly dropping dead, etc etc. D@mn scary ...not for the one dropping dead, but more for the ones that they leave behind!

Nomadic Mom,
Sorry to hear about your cousin-in-law. But you're right, health is so important, as are the things that money can't buy.

Have a great weekend, and I'll be visiting you again! =)

Hi, just dropping by.

Sorry to hear about the deluge of sad news you are facing. I guess these things happen to the best of us, irregardless of our health.

We just have to take care and pray for the best.

*sigh* The world has changed and cancer is just more prevalent now. It's all the stress, the air and the food that is available out there now. My mom has cancer, my aunt has cancer, my grandmother had cancer, my grandfather died of cancer, I hope I don't get cancer.

BTW, I've tagged you on the "8 facts about my Mom" :-)

Sasha - It's true. My cousin-in-law doesn't smoke nor drink. And she's into organic foods and such. Loads of people that live healthily still gets this dreaded C.

bp - Unfortunately, sometimes it takes something like this to know what is important in life. In the midst of all the daily stresses, we somehow don't see it.

jonzz - I supposed with today's pollution, pesticides, toxins, stress... we can't escape. Just have to really be happy and not make molehills out of anthills (in the case of little hiccups in our daily lives...)

Mott - Yeah.. I definitely don't want to be BEDRIDDEN with a SOUND MIND. It'll be depressing for me, and MEGA stressful for my loved ones. I've seen my great-grandma bedridden, and having ppl to change her diapers, feed her etc. Her MIND was still sharp and acute! Very saddening...

Laundryamah - I remember you dad. Remember you told me about his pains, and all. Sad. Sad.

Well, if handbags and shoes can make you happy and reach ecstasy, then go ahead lah... As long as you don't spend the milk money!! Hee hee..

WMD - Health is Wealth...

My friend said "can afford to die, but cannot afford to be sick" ...because healthcare is MEGA expensive these days.

Big Pumpkin - Oh! My! You poor thing!! I can't imagine how you are feeling with so many of your close family suffering from the dreaded disease. How are you taking it? Are you having regular check-ups? There are blood tests for cancer-markers.

I'll check out the tag in a while. Thanks.
