..........about being an expat is that your friends start to leave when you are just getting to know them better.
It's the same for the kids as well as for the adults. As it is, almost a third of S2's classmates left...
- 1 girl went back to Australia in Dec '06
- 1 girl moved to Dubai, also in Dec '06
- 1 girl moved to Hong Kong in March '07
- 1 boy moved back to Canada in July '07
- 1 boy moved to Miami in July '07
- 1 boy moved to the American School in Aug '07
And just today, I heard that another girl will leave in Dec '07 to go back to Malaysia, and another boy might leave to go back to Singapore at the same time.
As for me... most of the kids' moms are also my friends...and it is quite depressing to continually "lose" friends. Even friends outside the school realm are also leaving.... found out a friend is leaving for Surabaya, and another for Australia, and another for Malaysia in Dec '07.
That's GLOBALIZATION for you!!!
And us? H said that the most he'll stay here is another year..... so, that means we'll be leaving in one year's time. Where to? I don't know..... it'll be up to wherever the job takes H. And we'll try to retain H's expat package...for boys' education sake. It will be rather difficult for them to revert back to the Malaysian education system. Go to international school in Malaysia? No Way! As we absolutely cannot afford the school fees ourselves!
Anyway, we'll see in one year's time...
One day at a time, right?
With globalization, really don't know what would happen one....

That's the price you pay for being an expat. You win alot & lose some. ;D
sigh .. :( same case here... impossible to go back to Malaysian system lar .. Misha can't even speak malay language .. :( if go back sure need to go to international school . like you said lor .. so expensive ..
conclusion : try to stay in HK as long as possible or move to another place that can offer same or better package otherwise IF no choice .. then only go back to KL lor :(
Dancing Queen - What to do? Have to travel with the job, right? Just accept lor, and make new friends...
Misha's Mum - How long have you been in HK? Yeah.. once kids go into International school, mega difficult to go back to Malaysian system. Have to stay OUT for the sake of the kids' education lah...
how long out of malaysia ar ... hmm how to say .. long story lar.. but the thing is Misha has sero knowledge in malay and chinese (very very a bit lar . since school teaches mandarin) so .. susah to go back to local school in KL :(
S1 and S2 leh? how long out of malaysian system already ?
Misha's Mum - If counting from this recent posting, then only one year in British System lah.. Prior to that, they were in American International school before going back to Malaysia for 4 years. That was sort of Okay, since still young ma.. But even then, the teacher complained about S1 especially cause he wasn't behaving like normal Malaysian Kids. You know lah...American Kindy where got blackboard one??
you meant that S1 studied in American International School for 4 years .. then go back to Malaysia to study then now studying in jakarta?
wah lots of farewell parties to attend to!!
wah int'l school if pay from your own pocket...really sakit gigi lor!!
Misha's Mum - No lah.. We moved from Malaysia, to Singapore (2 Years) and then to Bangkok ( 1 1/2 years) and then to Malaysia (4 years) and then now in Jakarta... That's why I am NOMADIC maaa... hahahha.. S1 was in American Kindy in Bangkok.
Mommy Of 2 Angels - Cannot get Sakit Gigi..cause absolutely CANNOT pay ourselves. Here, the two boys' fees total about USD 37,000!!! How to pay ourselves?? DIE lah...
